The main objectives

The main objective of the project consists in placing the Cameroonian version of The main objective of the project consists in placing the Cameroonian version ofmodern Cameroon’s birth and evolution from 1884 on as a case study on Africa’s collective memory at the disposal of the public and researchers. It is a matter of filling an important gap in the historiography and the very perception of modern Cameroonthrough the voices of protagonists, witnesses, teachers, church leaders and Cameroonian historians who used their Cameroonian languages to express theirknowledge on the birth and the evolution of Cameroon until 1945. These oral andhandwritten testimonies by Cameroonians constitute early colonial time’s basicdocuments on oral and written African literature in African languages and modernhistory. This objective is supplemented by the preservation of old documents byauthors from the colonizing countries already collected by the Foundation AfricAvenir International in Douala.

  2. Handwritten textswritten in Cameroonian languages by the Cameroonian witnesses to history about very varied aspects of Cameroon’s evolution.
  3. 300 rare and old booksin German, French and English by European authors onthe birth of modern Cameroon and modern Africa, hardcover and digitalversion.
